Nationalism and Rightism are Incompatible

If we are to define "Leftism" and "Rightism" as existing on an axis consisting of two poles, with the Liberal extreme end being the closest to collectivism and the Conservative extreme end being closest to individualism, Nationalism would be far closer to Leftism than Conservatism. Nationalism is a collectivist impulse which transcends individualism and speaks to the Zeitgeist of the people, rather than to the needs and wants of the individual. Nationalism is incompatible with the current rightist model. Rightism, in its championing of capitalism, cannot possibly address the problem of the dissentegration of community and social life as a consequence of the ubiquitousness of technology, immigration, individual liberation, and deterritorialization. Ultimately, the philosophy espoused and championed by the Liberal, which aims to liberate the individual from the constraints imposed on him by society, is much more compatible with rightism than Nationalism is to righti...
